Wieliczka Salt Mine
The Wieliczka salt mine is one of the oldest mines in the world. It has been working constantly since the 13th century. Since 1978 it is part of the UNESCO World Culture and National Heritage list. The tourist route open for visitors reaches 135 meters below the surface and connects three levels. Apart from the Tourist Route, the underground passages and chambers house the Krakow Salt-Works Museum, which is one of the largest mining-related museums in Europe. Visitors can admire the museum’s collection both underground at level 3 of the salt mine and in the Salt-Works Castle.

Wieliczka Mine is Awesome but Krakow needs Tour Guides (not just transfers)
Paula_W, 18-07-2022
We were picked up from our Warsaw hotel by a friendly transfer person and taken to the railway station (the drive took as long as it would take to walk to the station as the station can be seen from our hotel). We were escorted to the platform and given information for the return trip back to Warsaw.
The tour provided by the Wieliczka Mine guide was absolutely fantastic - friendly, jovial and informative. We spent 1.5 hours in the mine descending to 130m and seeing many chambers and attractions.
Unfortunately, the tour of Krakow was NON EXISTENT: Although the Krakow guide had collected us at the station and given us instructions on how to get back to Warsaw, that was the LAST we saw of him - After the Wieliczka Miine tour, another person picked us up and drove us to Krakow and then left us there for 5+ hours - THERE WAS NO TOUR OF KRAKOW.
After walking around Krakow (the old town and castle are lovely) for 3+ hours, we had enough and paid 300PZL to get back to Warsaw earlier.
We were extremely disappointed there was no Karkow tour provided.
We give the mine 5 stars, the Warsaw driver 4 stars and the 2 Krakow guides ZERO (0) stars.
